Life Se Panga Mat Le Yaar!
Shaan, the Tobacco Control Ambassador of India, launched this new song that aims at hitting the right cord with the youth and the adolescents in India who may pose vulnerable to tobacco use. The song communicates with the young in simple words how life is not worth wasting on tobacco consumption. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare initiative requires mass support on this one!
Bidu, jeene ka bindaas.. Lekin tambaku matlab khallas.. Life hai toh mushqilein bhi hain..Mushqilein tall jayengi.. Cigarette Gutkha ke dhuein mein...Duniya teri jal jayegi.. Arey duniya ko hai tera intezar.. toh...Life se Panga mat le yaar…
Naa Cigarette, Naa Gutkha.. Life se Panga mat le yaar...
These are the lyrics of the music video ‘Life Se Panga Mat Le Yaar’ launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) as a part of its mass-media tobacco control campaign on February 2012, under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP). The track has been composed and sung by singer Shaan, who was announced ‘The Tobacco Control Ambassador of India’ in May 2011.
The video is primarily targeted at the youth and adolescents all over the country urging them to give up tobacco consumption as it involves risking their own life. As the lyrics suggest, the song’s moral is - ‘Life without tobacco is a life worth living’. It shows Shaan dancing with children encouraging them to take all problems in their stride and not to make things worse by consuming tobacco. He educates them to live their dreams and aspirations instead and not risk their future in the hands of tobacco.
If the effort hits the right cords, we may end up saving a few young ones from becoming an addict or may turn them into religious anti-smoking icons! Hope the song becomes a magic wand that encourages the youth of this country to refrain from consuming the deadly substance. What the usual repeated gyan couldn’t do, may be the energetic tunes, motivating words and the power of music could! It may help reduce the 5 million Indian youth that is reported to be addicted to tobacco, and eventually decrease 1/3rd of them who are at risk of dying a painful death due to its use.

Shaan has never ever touched tobacco and has sworn never to in his life, which makes him an icon for the kids and the youth. Shaan’s clean image and a determined anti smoking stance makes him a rightful Tobacco Control Ambassador.
The campaign is being currently aired on radio stations like Radio Mirchi, Radio City, Big FM and Red FM across India since 28 January 2012. On 1 February, the music video was unveiled on MTV, Sab, UTV Bindass and 9XM.
